Pulmonary Medicine & Sleep Medicine

Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Associates, a practice specializing in pulmonology and sleep disorders, is dedicated to serving the needs of the Southern Crecent of metro Atlanta. Our Pysicians are Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine.
The integration of the Section’s ambulatory pulmonary specialty centers with our multifaceted research laboratories provides a rich landscape for delivering and developing state of the art treatments, including a wide array of clinical trials.

The NYU Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine grew out of the renowned Chest Service at Bellevue Hospital Center, which for more than a century has been a world leader in the delivery of state-of-the-art patient care.

For both the Bellevue Chest Service and the division, the last decade has been a period of progress and growth. The division’s Fellowship Training Program expanded to include a third year of basic science and translational research. The Chest Service now encompasses critical care programs at Bellevue Hospital, Tisch Hospital, Veterans Affairs Hospital, and NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. The Bellevue Hospital inpatient Chest Service has expanded to meet the needs of a growing population of tuberculosis and AIDS patients.

New outpatient services include a separate Asthma Clinic, a Sleep Disorders Center, an Interventional Bronchoscopy Program, an Occupational/Environmental Medicine Program, and an outpatient program for Directly Observed Therapy for tuberculosis.

These clinical advances have been accompanied by the development of clinical and basic science research programs in the areas of tuberculosis, cancer, asthma, and critical care medicine. Since 1990, research support for the division has grown from zero to a dozen NIH and CDC grant programs.
